As I said in my previous article, my 1000H just died on me with a high pitched whining sound…
It seems that it is beyond repair and I got a 1000HE instead.
I love the new keyboard and the battery life is pretty amazing (and I got it in black which is more “manly” than the previous white one).
I already installed Windows 7 on it and it works like a charm.
I started hacking away with OSX and I’ll keep you posted how it goes in an upcoming post.

As a follow-up of my last articled:
So I did Jailbreak again and restored the backup. At first sight everything was OK, except that in the car when heading home, I saw that the phone reception was bricked (baseband ?). So I had no phone for 12 hours (the time to get back to my PC which I left at work) and had to restore again.
For the time being I’m not jailbreaking and am running with the basic (Apple approved) applications.

And you know what: the phone is way snappier and I have more free memory even under heavy use (BeatMaker, …) meaning less reboots needed, which is quite rewarding.
So it’s the one (iPhone without chains) or the other (snappier more responsive iPhone), I guess…

Naive as I am I wanted to update my perfectly working, jailbroken 2.2 iPhone to 2.2.1. which by the way corrects only some minor stuff (but we geeks just have to do stupid stuff like this, don’t we).
Now first try, directly update to 2.2.1 and re-jailbreak results in an infinite boot loop where the phone reboots every 5 minutes or so. This was somewhat foreseeable but you never know you could be lucky…
Second try, restore the phone firmware, then restore the backup then jailbreak. boot loop again. Now that is ...

After some digging I found some infos on apps blocking correct jaiilbreaking, meaning that you should:

First : Restore Firmware

Second: Jailbreak

Third: Restore the backup

So I’m happily restoring (again) and then trying to do the rest…

I lost all my open sessions and as a typical computer user I didn’t save all of my documents…
One more reason to switch to OS X…

PS: I know that there are ways to disable this behavior but it’s still frustrating because you usually forget to do it after a fresh install (every 6 months or so…).
